I've always liked small house since young.
Maybe because of my aunt.
She has a 2 room condo at the east side of Singapore.
It's a cosy and comfortable place.
My elder cousin has this "princess" room with pretty shelves and deco
and she"ll display her Barbie collections on the shelves.
Even though the place is small, it's feels so much like home.
It makes people want to stay in and look forward to heading home.
I myself live in a 5 room executive HDB ever since I'm born.
Even now in my in-law house.
It's spacious. That's for sure.
But it's not what I call an ideal home.
A big house is difficult to manage.
I'm not talking about marionette where there are trained housekeepers to look after the house.
I'm referring to 4 to 5 room HDB and Condo where the wife (usually) has to take care of every inches of the house.
It's tough, even with maid.
When it comes to renovating, there are more details to look at which translates to more work and time.
Also, you'll need the right furniture to make the house look good.
A bigger sofa set, a bigger fridge, bigger tables, more cabinets to fill the house, and nice wall decos.
Otherwise, the whole place will look empty and dull.
You"ll have the tendency to buy more useless stuff (in order to fill the cabinets).
You"ll buy more food to fill the fridge (and let it turn bad) when you don't even cook often.
And the person who has to deal with the house chores will always feel short handed and frustrated till the point she eventually gives up caring for the house.
I know so well because these are what go on in my parents' place.
Even for my aunt.
She shifted to a terrace and rented out the condo,
and later moved back to the condo after a couple of years.
You really do not need such a big house when there're only 2-3 people living in it.
But I do know of people who prefer a bigger house.
It makes them feel uneasy living in a small place.
I can only say different things work for different people.
That is why every thing serves a purpose.
I shall end with a picture of what I will call an ideal house.
